For $30, I thought this was a bargain for a 16 bay NiMH battery charger. When I first opened the box, the charger itself didn't feel cheap or flimsy. I thought it seemed well constructed. It's very easy to use; just plug in and start loading up your AA or AAA NiMH batteries. When the LEDs are red, your batteries are charging; when they turn green they're done. The charger is slower than the other NiMH "smart" chargers I own. But, it's also low powered, which I think is safer to use (in general) and easier on the batteries. It only puts out 300mAs when charging AAs - and only half that for AAAs. So, if you're using it with high capacity batteries, like 2800 mAhs, it's going to take up to 7 to 8 hours to recharge them (or even longer depending how depleted the battery is). It's also only drawing a maximum of 11 watts of power when filled to capacity, which is nice for someone like me who is off the grid and runs the household power off of a solar charged battery bank. I've used it now to charge my HiQuick, Tenergy and Powerowl NiMH batteries and it's had no problem charging them at all. During the entire charging process, the batteries barely got above room temperature; I could feel they were warm, but only a fraction of the temperatures they get to when in the other chargers I use. When the batteries are in the charger, they are held in their slot very securely. But even so, they are very easy to insert and remove. I'm quite pleased with this purchase and will continue to use this charger when I'm not in any hurry to charge my NiMH batteries.
