Description

The Schumacher FR01237 Battery Charger and Maintainer is a great option for charging car, SUV, truck, tractor, marine, and RV batteries. The microprocessor automatically adjusts the amperage rate, with multi-stage charging to extend battery life. Includes a simple start/stop interface, LED light indicators that track the charge/start status, and reverse hook-up protection which prevents the charger from operating if the clamps are reversed. Schu Eco Energy meets the highest industry standards. Compatible with standard, AGM, gel, and deep-cycle batteries.

Out of the box I was impressed. Heavy and rugged enough to handle the jobs I would put it to. What I replaced was a homemade charger that has worked for 30 years and is the same today. I went with a replacement because of over the years the batteries have changed and gotten more sophisticated and need more than turn it on and come back tomorrow and its ready. On the two batteries I tried, a small gel cell and my regular truck battery, both charged and the charger completed and all looks great. The problem was (and still is) a minor one; the digital readout on the second number, the top center bar does not light so sometimes you might think the battery is at 40% but it is really at 90% or vice versa until something changes and then you can tell for sure. 100% looks like 1U0% but understandable. Not something I would ship it back for but should be better. Maybe something happened in shipping but doubtful.I have a problem seeing the very small print on the front so I am going to use my P-touch labeler to make labels big enough to read with these tired eyes. I wouldn't think the font needs to be that small and a red background with white letters just doesn't cut it for me.I will be working on a few more batteries in the future so I may post other results or comments.Update. I did ship it back for the digital readout problem (suggested by Schumacher) and Amazon was great (as usual) about the whole thing. I got the new one in just a few days and it is working great! Had to make P-touch labels again and that helps a lot. I did email Schumacher about the font and colors and they said they are working on changing this. I tested the charger on more batteries and I do admit it is basically hands free and does a great job. I did take it apart and peek in and looks to be top notch. I recommend it.
