I love this thing!! My old spot light finally bit the dust. It was as old as dirt. Took forever to charge, and the obsolete battery was way too heavy. So I started the search and Amazon started sending comparisons. I sifted through the choices, one thing caught my attention was the word INDESTRUCTIBLE.. hmm.. My parameters were pretty harsh: water proof, solid, and a SERIOUS beam that would light up a tree a half mile away. But INDESTRUCTIBLE?! Jeez, that's even more harsh than my demands. As I studied It, I found that it runs on a hand full of AA batteries??? I thought, that's nuts! But then, lately, I've seen flashlights that fit in the palm of your hand that will light that tree up! And they run on AA batteries too. INDESTRUCTIBLE.. I went for it. But now that I have it, I understand. AA batteries are relatively inexpensive, and they're so common you can find them anywhere. The beam surprised me! It goes out there a looooong way. You have three different settings to conserve battery use if need be. The part that I like best, is that this thing is covered in some thick @$$ rubber. REAL RUBBER. Not some poly fake stuff. And I have no doubt that it is as waterproof as the specs say it is. Light but hefty. Solid, waterproof. I got what I wanted, and then some.***UPDATE*** Okay, I've had this light, what, a couple of months now? I don't really understand some of these reviews that knock this spotter!? I mean, I put new, quality batteries in as soon as I opened the box. I use it EVERY NIGHT on my rounds, (it's like the post office) neither sleet, nor snow, nor dark of night will stop this spotter!! I rarely follow up on items THAT WORK. But, my own humble disagreement with SOME of the other reviews, I'm sorry but I have been totally satisfied. This is NOT spam or falsity of ANY kind. The new batteries that I put in? .. Still blazing bright as when I put them in there. Sure, the trigger is Just a bit wobbly, BUT, thats THE ONLY negative to this light. It doesn't bother me. It's been in snow, ice, rain, and it never even flickered. These are ALL FACTS.And for the money? Ya can't beat it.I got to use this light on the boating on the lake and trying to find a cove to anchor for the night in after dark. It is bright, stays cool in operation and the batteries last a long time. Had to have one and bought one for my own boat and used it several times already. Before putting it in the boat, I had it in my bedroom on the dresser. We live in a rural setting in Calif in a "resource conservation area". It means we have a lot of open land with trees, creeks and meadows nearby. With all the dogs making a ruckus, I picked up this light and was able to spot the critter 700 feet away and scare it off. Will be purchasing another to leave in the house as well. Great light. Durable construction. The rubber around the front and rear of the barrel help it stay were you put it in a moving vessel. Some of the old 12v plug in halogen lights are brighter, but this is self contained, bright enough, and no more burns from a hot spot light. Used 6 AA batteries. One place in the specs says 2 AA, but is not correct.Very small compared to lights of comparable luminosity. Nice and bright - on "high", if your eyesight were good enough, you could very clearly read the words on a non-reflective "posted' sign at night from 100 yards. One squeeze on the trigger, and the light STAYS on "high". A second squeeze, and it stays on "medium". A third squeeze to "low", and a 4th squeeze back to "off". With this light, there is no need to keep squeezing or to use a "lock" switch, as with many other lights. I don't mind "cycling through" to turn it off as much as some other reviewers have indicated, as long as it doesn't produce a failure from over-use in the future. The light doesn't have some of the bells & whistles that I've enjoyed on other lights...such as an angled/rotating head or a flat surface on top that enables the light to be positioned/focused within a work space. Not inexpensive for what it is...but if it holds up then it's worth it. I got tired of rechargeable spotlights after too many charge/battery life issues and lost charging cables. You are buying the best spotlight in the market. Here are the "good" and "bad" on this product...ADVANTAGES.1. The device is constructed of hard ABS plastic. Both ends are additionally covered with rubber armor..2. It will survive a 15 feet drop test. With shatterproof lens and reflector, the main components will suffer minimal damage..3. It has an Ansi IPX7 Waterproof Submersible rating. Thick rubber gaskets and a two piece construction minimizes water leakage..4. The spotlight has three light modes: high, medium, and low..5. It has the highest rated light output of 500 lumens..6. Rayovac is a recognized brand, and the company warrants its product for life..7. The unit is very balanced. It feels good in one's hand...DISADVANTAGES.1. The model is very expensive. Fortunately, I bought it for $14. It was sold at discount as an "open box" - essentially new but removed from its sealed plastic mold. In addition, I received an $11.70 credit using an Amazon gift card promo.
